Starting in the early 90s one of the biggest pieces of hip-hop pop culture was introduced as the Wu-Tang Clan. Under the production genius and direction of The RZA (pronounced Rizz-ah), the hip-hop group not only had hit albums as an ensemble of rappers together, but each artist spun-off and did his own solo album(s). Looking back on it now, they created their own connected musical universe where Wu-Tang members would show up on each other's solo albums, too. Quite similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe we see in the movie business today.
Now, The RZA is officially joining the Marvel family as the director of Episode 6 for Marvel's IRON FIST series. The episode is titled 'Immortal Emerges From the Cave.'
A big fan of comics and the martial arts genre — obviously, since the Wu-Tang Clan used heavily influence and references to martial arts, as well as comic books, in pretty much every album he produced — The RZA's directorial debut was 2012's THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS. He also developed the story, acted in it and has screenplay credit for the film.
IRON FIST debuts exclusively on Netflix on March 17.
