A New Take on AQUAMAN Might Become Zack Snyder's Greatest DC Movie Accomplishment

For decades, Aquaman has been the punchline of many jokes. And while DC Comics have published some really good stories over the years featuring Arthur Curry, the jokes have been inescapable.

It seems those jokes might disappear as actor Jason Momoa was cast by director Zack Snyder in the role of Aquaman. He had a cameo in BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and he is looking to have a much bigger role in JUSTICE LEAGUE. Then, fans will get a chance to see him in his own solo AQUAMAN movie in 2018.

Momoa has said many times how he will put an end to all the Aquaman jokes by giving fans a true badass version of the character that has never been seen. So far, it looks like he could be right.

The person who needs to be commended for this is none other than Snyder. He picked Momoa and he decided to go in a different direction for the character. In fact, in an interview with DigitalTrends, Momoa gave big praise to Snyder's vision for Aquaman.

"Zack Snyder is a huge fan of Game of Thrones and I met him in the training stunt facility that I train at and I guess he really liked me because he later called me into his office and we talked about playing Aquaman. He had a really cool vision for what he wanted to do and how he wanted me to look. It’s kind of Zack’s baby... But the cool thing with Aquaman is how it taps into the native culture and that’s something that we’re only taught a little about, so there’s a lot of interesting things. I really think it’s the right time. It’s really cool. Zack is one of those perspectives on it and DC is really getting behind it. It was a ballsy step. They did it, and I’m extremely happy with the world they’ve created. It’s an honor to be part of this."

There is no doubt this new version of Aquaman has many fans, including this one, excited to see him in JUSTICE LEAGUE and AQUAMAN. If the performance matches the all hype and talk of this new version, then Snyder's greatest accomplishment within the DC Extended Universe might be his vision for a new, badass version of Aquaman. (Fingers crossed!)

JUSTICE LEAGUE releases in the U.S. on November 17. AQUAMAN begins filming in Australia in the coming weeks and releases on October 5, 2018.
