An AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR What If? Star-Lord is the Adam Warlock Role From 'The Infinity Gauntlet' Comics
Right now, Marvel Studios is in full blown production and filming mode for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta. What we know about the next Avengers film is that pretty much every single hero introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will make an appearance and the movie's main character will be focused on the cosmic villain Thanos and his pursuit of the six Infinity Stones.
This movie will be loosely based on the classic Marvel comic book mini-series 'The Infinity Gauntlet.' In this story, Thanos assembles his Infinity Gauntlet which makes him Omnipresence, Omniscience, and Omnipotence. In other words, he is all-powerful to bend reality into his liking by the use of Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, and Power Gems. (In the comics they are referred to as Infinity Gems while in the MCU they are called Infinity Stones.)
As of right now, all but the Soul Stone have been revealed. The Time Stone is the Eye of Agamotto as seen in DOCTOR STRANGE. The Space Stone is the Tesseract as seen in THE AVENGERS and is currently located in Asgard's Vault. The Mind Stone was in Loki's scepter in THE AVENGERS and AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON but is now in Vision's forehead. The Reality Stone is the Aether, which is in The Collector's collection from the end of THOR: THE DARK WORLD. And the Power Stone was seen in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and now in the custody of the Nova Corps on Xander. Where the Soul Stone is at is still unknown, but Thanos is most definitely coming for it so it will be revealed very soon.
Which brings us to the point of this "What If?" post and that is our thought of how Star-Lord could possibly be the Adam Warlock role in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and AVENGERS 4.
If you're not familiar with this role from the comics, Adam Warlock was the one who had the ability to take possession of the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos. He then sets reality back to the way it is supposed to be after Thanos erased half the universe in his attempt to court, and impress, the Death.
In the MCU, we've already been told only a few can touch an Infinity Stone and obviously Thanos is one who can. Ronan The Accuser was another, but he fell when Star-Lord was able to touch the Power Stone and not immediately die. Star-Lord has the ability to be able to touch an Infinity Stone and survive. This means we will see more about this story thread in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 and actor Chris Pratt even teased about this in a recent interview with ComicBook.com.
“It plays a certain role. His interaction with the Infinity Stone in the first movie becomes – there’s a thread there that gets pulled in the second movie, like you get to know a little bit more. But yeah, that wasn’t an unimportant aspect of who he is.”
If this "What If?" theory of ours here at DailySuperHero.com is right, then it makes sense for Star-Lord to possibly be in the Adam Warlock role as the one who can possess the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos to set things right. Of course, this theory is all based on the assumption that Adam Warlock will not be introduced in the MCU. If he is, cool. If he's not, then don't be surprised if Star-Lord is the one wearing the Infinity Gauntlet at some point in the next two Avengers movies.
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR releases on May 4, 2018 and AVENGERS 4 releases on May 3, 2019.
