This is a topic that has been discussed more and more after recent releases. And with 2017 being the first year the studio is releasing three movies — GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING and THOR: RAGNAROK — the discussion may only grow louder.
We here at DailySuperHero.com have discussed this villain topic in the past, most recently for DOCTOR STRANGE here, but according a GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 set visit, by io9 last year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has also acknowledged the issue.

“It always starts with what serves the story the most and what serves the hero the most. A big criticism of ours is that we focus on the heroes more than the villains, I think that’s probably true."
In simpler terms, Marvel Studios knows it but they don't care because they are about serving the story and showcasing their heroes. Sure there are some villain exceptions, most notably with Loki, but this is cinematic universe built on focusing on the ongoing stories of its heroes more so than its villains.
So if you're looking for any kind of big villain redemption in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 you're going to be disappointed because the villains of this sequel are less ambitious than Ronan the Accuser was in the last film, according to Feige.
“Taserface and Ayesha are less grandiose in their ambitions than Ronan was, for instance. Ayesha just wants to kill them for slighting her, and Taserface wants to lead the Ravagers and thinks that Yondu got soft.”
Not having really strong villains who can carry on their own storyline beyond one movie is not a bad thing when it comes to the Guardians franchise because the movie needs to be focused on its bunch of misfits, who are anti-heroes trying to be heroes. The sooner you can accept this fact about this sequel, and potential Guardians sequels in the future, the quicker you'll realize the villains the Guardians face are in fact serving the greater purpose of the story first and foremost.
And that's a-okay.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 releases in the U.S. on May 5.
