Matt Reeves Has Reportedly Committed to be THE BATMAN Director

Well that was fast. It was less than two weeks ago when word hit that actor Ben Affleck would no longer be directing THE BATMAN solo movie.

Now, word has come out from Variety that Matt Reeves (CLOVERFIELD, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES) is officially in talks with Warner Bros. to take over the director chair for the Caped Crusader's next solo outing.

"Sources tell Variety that [Reeves]... has already committed to helming the superhero pic, although a deal isn’t done yet... Affleck will still have a significant role in the direction of the film — the first solo movie to star Affleck as the Caped Crusader — after writing the script with Geoff Johns, but he will now have more time to focus on acting."

This is some much needed good news for Warner Bros. after recent rumors have watered down the hype surrounding the movie. Specifically, a rumor from just a few days ago claiming that once a director is hired then THE BATMAN script could get a full re-write. Nowhere in Variety's report does it say anything about any re-write.

Next is the question of when THE BATMAN will be ready to start filming. Originally planned for a late spring / early summer principle photography start date, it remains to be seen if this timeline will hold up once Reeves is on board. But none of this has stopped actor Joe Manganiello from starting his workout and katana training for his role as the villain Deathstroke. So perhaps the movie's production timeline will be intact for the most part and filming might only be delayed a few weeks.
