AQUAMAN Delayed to December 2018 and Could Move Again if HAN SOLO Star Wars Film Moves to the Same Month
Warner Bros. has pushed back the release date for AQUAMAN for a second time. Back in December 2016, the studio pushed back AQUAMAN 10 weeks from its July 2018 release to October 2018. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter it has been pushed back another two months to December 21, 2018.
This release date was previously held by James Cameron's AVATAR 2 but he recently announced a delay and it would not hit that date. Warner Bros. swooped in and has now claimed it for AQUAMAN.
However — and this is not yet confirmed but it could be announced next month at Star Wars Celebration Orlando — there is good reason to believe the standalone HAN SOLO movie could be moving from its May 2018 release to a December 2018 release due to the huge success of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS and ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY. Disney and Lucasfilm seem destined to takeover the month of December since many are off from work and school for the last two weeks of the calendar year and it has become a prime moviegoing time.
So don't be surprised if AQUAMAN moves and changes its release date for the third time IF Lucasfilm moves HAN SOLO to December 2018. Because no studio wants to face-off against Star Wars.
