Hugh Jackman's final movie as the X-Men mutant Wolverine is looking to make a big splash during its opening this weekend. Despite its R-rating, LOGAN is projecting for an estimated $65 million to $70 million domestic opening by various news outlets. This opening would put LOGAN ahead of the domestic openings of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, X-MEN and THE WOLVERINE.
Worldwide, LOGAN does not open in every market but enough to place a prediction of a $170 million opening weekend total from various outlets. A solid opening for a March release as the superhero genre continues to prove it doesn't matter what time of year it opens.
Our own prediction for LOGAN is right in line with these news outlets and we are thinking $70 million is highly plausible. But word-of-mouth could propel the opening numbers here in the U.S. to potentially as high as $80 million. Especially since it has a terrific review score on RottenTomatoes of 93-percent, as of the publishing of this post. Click here to read our spoiler-free review.
LOGAN hits U.S. screens at 7 p.m. on Wednesday March 2 with a full rollout at all times on March 3.
