Kevin Feige Looks Confused as Sony Thinks Spider-Man Will Crossover Between Their Own Marvel Universe and the MCU
Sony Pictures owns the live action movie rights for Spider-Man. Fact.
Sony has partnered up with Marvel Studios to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Fact.
Part of this studio partnership calls for Sony to allow Marvel Studios to use Spider-Man in other MCU films like last year's CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and next summer's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. Fact.
Sony is paying for the budget of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING and will take all the movie profits for themselves, while Marvel Studios and Disney get all the profits from all-things Spider-Man merchandise. Fact.
Sony and Marvel Studios have already green lit a sequel to SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING for summer 2019. Fact.
Sony is building their own "Sony Marvel Universe" using other characters they own the live action movies rights for under the Spider-Man character rights umbrella. Fact.
Sony has green lit a VENOM movie starring actor Tom Hardy and a Silver Sable and Black Cat movie that is being called SILVER AND BLACK. Fact.
VENOM and SILVER AND BLACK will not be a part of the MCU. This was fact but is now in question.
Spider-Man will not show up in VENOM or SILVER AND BLACK. This was fact but is now in question.
Venom, Silver Sable and Black Cat won't appear in the MCU. Kind of unknown now.
The reason for this breakdown to so show you what is fact and what is unknown now since former Sony head, now producer, Amy Pascal said that SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, VENOM and SILVER AND BLACK all will exist in the same universe.
Pascal says (via io9):
"Both movies will all take place in the world that we’re now creating for Peter Parker. I mean, they’ll be adjuncts to it, there may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world and they will be connected to each other."
Watch in the video embed below and pay special attention to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige's eyes and facial expressions. We are no expert in reading facial language but it looks to us like this information catches Feige somewhat off-guard. As Pascal talks, at the start of this video clip, Feige is looking at her then his eyes move to the side (as seen in the screenshot leading this post) like he's confused about what she's saying. This possible confusion precedes what seriously looks like a small little body twitch (presumably from what he just heard), a swallow (swallowing that pain in his throat that is having to work with Sony for Spider-Man) and a what looks like a very fake smile. Just watch it below and judge for yourself...
[BREAKING NEWS] Amy Pascal confirm Black Cat and Vanom movie will pass in the same universe of "Spider-Man: Homecoming pic.twitter.com/qfAKOulqwE— Tom Holland Updates (@tomhupdates) June 18, 2017
This all comes after Feige disclosed how VENOM will not be in the MCU, earlier this year. So who the hell knows what is going on with Sony and their Spider-Man franchise plans and it really seems like the situation is way more fluid that anyone may have originally thought. What this truly means for the future of Spider-Man and Sony's Marvel Universe is unknown, but let's not start thinking that Marvel Studios and Disney will try to re-acquire all the Spidey movie rights. Sure, anything is possible, but not with Sony having new Spidey spin-off movies coming next year.
Of course everyone wants to see Spider-Man and Venom on the big screen together but we here at DailySuperHero.com and, apparently, Kevin Feige are now confused by what Pascal has said. Fact.
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING releases in the U.S. on July 7.
