Sony Pictures is moving forward with their first "Sony's Marvel Universe" movie VENOM. Starring actor Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom, the movie will reportedly begin production in the coming summer weeks.
Ruben Fleischer (ZOMBIELAND) is also attached to direct but not much information has been provided about VENOM. That is until The Hollywood Reporter published their feature article on the Sony and Marvel Studios partnership for the live action Spider-Man movie rights.
THR reports:
"As for the expansion plans, Tom Hardy is starring in Venom, dated for Oct. 5, 2018, which will also feature the villain Carnage."
Prior to the studio partnership made between Sony and Marvel Studios, Sony was developing a VENOM / CARNAGE spin-off movie with writer and director Alex Kurtzman but it was scrapped when the partnership deal was made. If any of those ideas, story arcs or sequences from the old script have made it into this newly developed VENOM movie is unknown.
