WONDER WOMAN is now in theaters and set to bring in upwards of $90 million domestically in its opening weekend. Thursday night, the movie brought in an estimated $11 million which puts it ahead of last year's DOCTOR STRANGE Thursday numbers which were $9.4 million; the good Doctor's movie opened with $85 million in the domestic box office.
While fans are finally taking in WONDER WOMAN this weekend the critical acclaim it is receiving, — with a 93-percent Certified Fresh score on RottenTomatoes.com as well as a 7.6-out-of-10 review average, when this article was published — is propelling the movie toward an obvious sequel. Director Patty Jenkins is already hinting at WONDER WOMAN 2 and disclosed the following to The Hollywood Reporter:
"And if it all goes according to plan, Jenkins is more than ready to return to the character for a contemporary-set Wonder Woman sequel (she and Gadot are contractually committed to a second film)."
Actress Gal Gadot will be seen later this year when JUSTICE LEAGUE opens in U.S. theaters on November 17.
UPDATE: Jenkins seems to have contradicted her quote to THR in an interview with Uproxx implying another period piece timeline could be in place for WONDER WOMAN 2.

"It is for sure [set in the 100 years prior]. I’m definitely planning something more interesting using that period of time. Definitely, it’s the plan. I can’t say what it is! But it’s definitely right in the pocket of what you’re talking about."
Based on this, let's just assume this potential sequel is in the earliest of development stages right now.
