Kara tries to get Alex to open up but Alex is unreceptive and instead turns on her about how she shut down after Mon-El left.
This episode is heavy on the flashbacks as we see Alex and Kara when they were teenagers in Midvale. Like all teenage sisters, they hated each other. Between each excelling in their own subjects at school and having different friends, they couldn't be more different.
Alex even goes as far to tell Kara she lost her father and her family because of her and she wasn't worth it. Alex really had the teen angst going for her.
Kara is able to shrug off the bullies and Alex’s disdain because she has a friend, Kenny, but after bonding with him over with a telescope the police find him the next morning. Dead. Kara is rightfully distressed and even risks revealing her powers when she interrogated a football player who harassed Kenny.
Kara goes to see Kenny’s parents who the police are taking to. His mom asks her to find his telescope. Against the creepy sheriff’s request, Kara goes back out to where she and Kenny were. Alex is there and after nearly getting scorched by her sister, she reveals Kenny helped to secretly tutor her in calculus.
They snoop around and find Kenny’s laptop that looked hidden. They look into his computer to find something that could lead to his death. They do find incriminating pictures against one of their teachers canoodling with a fellow classmate and old friend of Alex’s. Alex confronts the girl, Josie, who tries to defend their relationship much to Alex's disgust. Kara and
Alex are bonding as they walk home when they're nearly ran over by a car. They are both sure it was Mr. Bernard. Eliza is upset at them for looking into this especially when Kara could've been exposed by using her powers. She brings in a FBI agent who is a dead ringer for Kara’s mother. Freaky and obviously intentional.
She encourages Kara that she should take advantage of her second chance instead of trying to be a superhero. Kara promises not to use her powers. As the agent walks away, it's revealed to be none other than Hank, keeping his promise and looking after the kids.
Alex is more gung-ho than ever to catch Kenny’s killer when she finds out Josie was there when Bernard was arrested and could've have tried to run them off the road. Kara refuses, trying to take the advice and not use her powers.
Alex goes to the sheriff to tell him about the laptop that Kenny had full of blackmail pictures. He brings her to an empty room and all the danger bells are going off for her. Kara calls and tells her about the pictures Clark’s friend (Chloe) sent back to her unencrypted. Several of which are of the Sheriff in some kind of drug deal.
The Sheriff uses her phone to call Kara back. Alex shouts out their location to her and Kara flies across town to the school. Kara bursts through the wall and knocks out the Sheriff.
Alex and Kara are both the town pariah’s after their mystery solving. Kara finds a picture of her flying the sky that Kenny had showing he knew about her powers. Alex and Kara both promise to be better sisters to each other.
As we come back to the present time, Alex wakes up less mean than when she went to sleep. Her and Kara make up and realize how lucky they are to have one another in their time of crisis.
Almost all the best episodes of SUPERGIRL are centered around Alex and Kara’s relationship. It was so great exploring the beginning of their bond and partnership. Not to mention the actors playing the young versions of them were spot on. Their relationship is sure to come into play as Alex heals from her breakup and Mon-El comes back
