SUPERGIRL Season 3 Episode 9 Review: Reign

After the whirlwind of a fight that Kara faced last week with her super buddies versus the Nazis, you'd think she'd get a break but she gets to face a new big bad and an ex and his new girl. Thems the breaks.

The team at the DEO talk to Mon-El and Imra about what they were doing in the 31st century and on the ship. As it turns out Kara was used as an inspiration to create The Legion to keep peace in the future on earth and other planets.

Kara invites them to a party at her apartment but it's plain to anyone how hurt she is and Mon-El rightly declines. Everyone gathers in Kara’s apartment for her Christmas party including Samantha and her daughter, Lena, Hank and his father, whose newfound Earth joy is hot chocolate. Yeah it's basically the best thing about Christmas.

Hank and Kara are pulled away for work and they're brought to a field that was burned in the shape of an alien symbol. Kara speaks with her hologram mom who tells her it is a Kryptonian symbol but there are no known translations.

Samantha has seemingly forgotten her conversation with evil robot at her evil Fortress and didn't even remember the day before.

Lena and James focus on getting the news out via Catco but Lena also suspects Morgan Edge has something to do with it. She confronts him but he plays dumb.

Kara and Winn go investigating at the alien bar and see if anyone knows about this ancient Kryptonian symbol. Unfortunately they run into Mon-El and Imra acting sickenly cutesy. Luckily their conversation is cut short when Kara receives a call from a prison.

Calling her is none other than Thomas Coville. The creepy guy that turned Supergirl into a cult. But anywho he seems to know about the symbol due to his worldly travels looking for anything Kryptonian. He states a prophecy says that a Worldkiller is coming and that the Kryptonian symbol was just the beginning. And that death will come before she tries to destroy earth. So no good news there. Imra decides it's a good time to talk to Kara about how hard it was for Mon-El to move on which of course doesn't go well.

Lena and James try to investigate themselves to see if a contact of hers could locate Morgan’s bank charges. Instead they find another Kryptonian symbol and are attacked by some guy with alien tech that James knocks out.

In another shady part of town, a drug deal takes place but is barely finished when they're attacked and killed by Reign who is seriously giving me evil Batman villain.

Samantha hurries to Lena and James after she finds out about the assassination attempt. It seems that he could've been hired by Morgan Edge which has Samantha’s evil bells going off and she leaves preparing to take him out. Okay so maybe she isn't all bad.

Morgan calls Lena to semi-brag about the person who tried to kill her, like he didn't send him. Of course Reign comes in and terrorizes his staff but unfortunately doesn't get him because he hides in his panic room.

The team at the DEO determine whoever is causing trouble with the drug dealers and symbol is Kryptonian but Kara is sure of her own ability to take her down. She refuses to wait anymore and goes to put her own signal out there on the Catco building calling Reign out.

Reign comes saying that she is dispensing justice on National City. Neither Supergirl or Reign step down and they fight. A fight which takes them crashing through an office Christmas party where the party-goers get good seats until they land on a ship and then kick each other's butts back to the city.

The fight is very impressive and Kara had the upper hand for a bit but Reign proved to be too strong, even making her bleed and bruise. She is so weak that when she drops her from the top of a building she's unable to fly and lets herself fall, helpless.

This has to be my favorite mid season finale of SUPERGIRL yet. The fight scenes had me on the edge of my seat like wrestling match Reign has proven that she is just as strong if not stronger than Kara and willing to do worse. Only questions that remain are if Samantha is actually aware of what she is doing and how will Ring be affected?

It seems James and Lena didn't waste much time since it took them about an episode of chemistry to start making out but it might not be the worst pairing.

Kara was in the fight of her life and nearly lost her life. She had to actually had to brought to the DEO while Alex and the others try and save her. Not even her worst enemies have laid Kara out like this. If this isn't a shake up for the whole DEO, nothing is.
