They’ve got other things to worry about at the GCPD. They are holding Lee for her crimes. Harvey says Gordon could just let Lee walk away, but Gordon wants to uphold the law. He seems to love doing that with people that aren’t him. Lee sees that the law is holding him back from really helping people. She thinks he should come with her to the Narrows to really make a difference in the town. She clearly has not thought through what The Riddler’s opinion may be if her ex walked through the door for her.
The Riddler is planning to go to GCPD to get Lee out. He is considering Gordon throughout his plan. He wants to make sure he is unharmed, so Lee doesn’t blame him for any violence. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t plan for Jerome’s followers to be his biggest concern. Luckily, that might make his task much easier. The GCPD is moving everyone around as they lead the followers inside. Gordon knows that this must be a distraction for something else. He traps all the followers inside the building while they try to figure out who the true target is.
In that plan, he loses track of Lee. She gets knocked out in all the panic and is trapped inside as well. The Riddler goes in after her, trying to blend in with everyone else as he wears a clown costume. Lee then accidentally knocks out the Riddler. They truly are a mess together, but I’m starting to warm up to the entire idea. They are quite sweet together as they escape the GCPD and everyone else is being tear- gassed.
Meanwhile, Bruce is meeting with Jeremiah about making energy generators for Wayne Enterprises. After hearing about the status of Jerome’s followers, Alfred decides to go after them. He is quickly apprehended by an unknown figure, but at least he informs Gordon of Bruce’s location before this. When Bruce finds out that Bruce and Jeremiah are the true targets (after torturing a guy. What happened to wanting to uphold the law so badly? Maybe he should move to the Narrows), he is able to go after them.
Alas, they leave before he has the chance to get to them. Jeremiah is worried that his brother may be alive and leading this crowd of people after him. He even lets Bruce know about the insanity gas giving him visions of his brother coming after him. Nonetheless, I don’t trust him. Bruce suggests that they go to his grave, and once Jeremiah sees reality, he will be okay again. Bruce calmly brushes off the fact that Alfred isn’t answering his calls, even after Alfred just informed him about the Jerome situation. With all their fancy technology, you would think there would be a way for Bruce to just know that Alfred was in trouble.
Once they get to the grave, they see that it has all been dug up by Jerome’s followers earlier. Jeremiah is freaking out. He is convinced that his brother is still alive, and I’m sure the fact his tombstone reads “second time is the charm” is not helping the situation. Jeremiah loses his mind, and believes that Jerome is in disguise as Bruce. He tries to kill him.
Gordon goes to Jeremiah’s lab to check on them, but doesn’t find them. There is a message waiting for Gordon at the lab, and a lady with a gun waiting to kill him. Gordon fights the girl while Jerome is being choked out in the video. He finds out that the girl is Ecco, and figures out the Jeremiah has been behind all of this, not Jerome. I really would love to find out more about Ecco’s backstory, but now is not the time for them to explain that. Jeremiah causes the energy generator to explode, and while we do not see him die, it seems unrealistic that he would survive such a large blast.
Jerome’s followers join Jeremiah and Bruce at the gravesite, and Jeremiah kills one of them for declaring his brother is victorious. Jeremiah wants everyone to understand that he is much better than his brother ever was. He is going to do everything that Jerome wanted to do, but better. Cue the explosion. Bruce doesn’t have much time to be angry about it before he is knocked out and thrown in with Jerome’s dead body, and Jeremiah and Ecco make their way to Wayne Enterprises to pick up more bombs.
The real question at the end of this episode is how Gordon managed to survive. Not if, but how. People don’t die on this show. Additionally, I’m curious if Alfred is okay as well. He’s died before though, so a light beating is nothing now. And hopefully they can include Penguin and Butch in the next episode in more than a few unimportant scenes. Only two more episodes until the season is over!
