Before the water on the waterfront completely envelops National City, they’re given assistance by the other legionaries who’ve come back to help.
The disasters stop for the moment thanks to Myr’nn sacrificing his life for Earth. This gives them time to wait for Sam to pull through the Dark Valley. She sees a vision of her mother who seems to keep trying to help her although Sam is skeptical.
Even though things seem oddly okay between Imra and Mon-El, Brainy comes by and tells Winn and Mon-El that they’re needed in the future. In a whole back to the future type twist, killing Pestilence saved many people but it spared Brainy’s evil relative who wants to wipe out all AI’s. Winn’s nonviolent design is the cornerstone too all major technology and they need Mon-El to lead them.
Sam pulls through. With help from her mom in the Dark Valley she regains her strength from the fountain. When she gains consciousness, her Kryptonian cells have healed to give her the same powers as Kara. Ahead of the game, Supergirl, Hank, Alura and Mon-El find Reign and the witches thanks to Coville (who turned out not to be completely dead) who sent a signal from the ship they took.
With more people on their side, they’re able to defeat the witches. Supergirl even goes as far as killing Reign but she takes out several of her allies before she does. With Reign dead but also Alura, Mon-El and Sam, Supergirl feels dejected. With her going against what she stands for by killing Reign, she feels like it’s her fault.
When Supergirl sees Mon-El’s ring, she grabs it and without hesitation and flies into a disruption to go back into time. She goes back just in time to stop Sam from attacking Reign and instead uses the Harun El to send all three of them to the Dark Valley. Sam lands some good hits and Reign is locked up in the prison for good.
Sam is totally Kryptonite free, which is good, but also means she’s probably served her purpose and won’t be coming back next season. She won’t be the only one. Winn and Mon-El both decided to go back to the future to help the Legion. Brainy, of course, staying in his place.
Hank and Alex talk. With everything that’s been going she’s decided she wants to quit as a DEO agent to pursue being a mother. Hank, also having many revelations, had decided he wanted to promote her to his position, Director, so he honor his father and help more people.
And because James doesn’t want to be left out, he decided to go ahead and let the world know he’s Guardian. That won’t come back to bite him in his butt. Also leaving, Alura who goes back to Argo with the witches to stand trials for their crimes and more Harun El courtesy of Lena. With everything changing and people leaving, our one constant is Alex and Kara still together as sisters.
In the final moments of the season, we see that Lena has kept some of the Harun-El for her own test purposes, despite their being dangers. And we see that at the time that Kara went into the Dark Valley, all the way in Siberia, a clone of hers is found in the snow.
I felt a bit underwhelmed by the finale. It felt like the season was drawn out too much. It could’ve ended any time in the past 3-4 episodes.
It feels like Mon-El and Kara were drawn out too until they could find a way to end them. Of course he could come back since, you know, spaceships but it’s unlikely. Also Winn took off with them due to Jeremy Jordan leaving SUPERGIRL as a regular but will continue to make recurring appearances.
I’m looking forward to Alex taking the reins at the DEO especially since Hank implemented the non-violent weapons and skedaddled. It’s sure to come up under her rule.
Of course, another Supergirl showing up in Siberia hints strongly to the Superman “Red Son” comic arc, which showed how Superman would’ve grown up if he landed in Russia instead. There’s definitely some interest growing to how they’ll adapt that story when SUPERGIRL comes back this fall.
