Disney's Lucafilm will start to target new leadership as Variety reports Kathleen Kennedy will step down and retire at the end of 2025. Variety writes:
"Kathleen Kennedy, the longtime president of Lucasfilm, is expected to step down at the end of 2025.
"She intends to retire after her current contract ends, according to a source with knowledge of her plans. A separate source close to Kennedy, however, dismissed the initial report by Puck as 'pure speculation' and said nothing has been decided."
Star Wars has been a non-existent IP in theaters since the 2019 release of STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER as Kennedy has not been able to get a single film into production since the movie released with the exception of MANDALORIAN AND GROGU, which is a big screen continuation to the Disney+ streaming series. There have been projects announced in the advance since 2019, but nothing has made it past the development stage and given a green light for production except the Mando movie.
Meanwhile, the streaming series side of Star Wars has had some success in recent years led by THE MANDALORIAN and ANDOR: A STAR WARS STORY.
Who will possibly take over will fill headlines this calendar year now as many expect either Jon Favreau or Dave Filoni could (hope to) take the helm of Lucasfilm.
